Hafthor Bjornsson still able to deadlift more than the average man despite ‘The Mountain’ from Game of Thrones losing 110Ibs in weight
Hafthor Bjornsson is scaling back his deadlift routine – from 501kg to 360kg.
Yep, even after shedding 110Ibs in weight, he still loves much more than the average man.
However, ‘The Mountain’, as he is known to millions of Game of Thrones fans, is still very much training. It’s just that his focus has shifted to boxing as he prepares for his long-awaited fight with rival Eddie Hall.
Bjornsson, who won 10 consecutive Iceland’s Strongest Man competitions and the 2018 edition of World’s Strongest Man is looking leaner in preparation for his boxing debut.
On his YouTube channel, the monstrous 6ft 7in man detailed how his training has changed with his ‘smaller’ frame and it’s no surprise he’s still insanely strong.
“I’m training twice a day right now, back into full action, obviously doing boxing a lot, a lot of technique work as well as lifting weights,” he says. “I’m not lifting as heavy as I used to, I’m focusing mainly on the boxing, and doing lifting as secondary work. I’m still lifting in the gym, I’m enjoying the work; I’m actually training more than I did when I was in strongman, I’m in the gym more now.”
Bjornsson broke the world record for heaviest deadlift in 2020 by pulling a staggering 501kg, which broke Hall’s record just to add to the spice.
But dropping weight and refocusing his training, Bjornsson is now pulling a little less than half of that.
His new deadift routine consists five sets of three reps at 225kg.
Of course, he ends up lifting 360kg.
Bjornsson and Hall are set to collide in September in what is being billed as the ‘heaviest fight in boxing history’ and the former has even talked up a potential clash with heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, which led Hall branding him deluded. Though that was probably in reference to Thor’s belief he would knock his rival out twice.
