Callum Watkinson, a reporter on ITV Central, was filmed angrily shouting at a man whom he accused of walking into the back of his shot. In the 53-second clip, he is seen walking over to the man, in Broad Street in Birmingham city centre, while holding his notes presumably for his on-screen piece. He then launches his tirade by asking him if he has a job at McDonald’s or Footlocker.

An ITV spokesman has since said Mr Watkinson has been spoken to following the comments.

He said: “ITV has spoken to the reporter and the matter is being dealt with internally.

“We apologise for any offence the comments have caused and will not be commenting further at this time.”

The video was posted to Twitter last week by an account called imjustbrum.

Mr Watkinson said in the video: “I’m not a higher class than you mate, I’m just trying to do a job – have you got a job?”

“Why don’t you go and get a job and then I will come behind you and start behind an idiot?”

He then started performing a mocking dance to the camera.

Mr Watkinson did not stop there as he continued: “Where do you work?

“Footlocker or McDonald’s?”

The man said to him: “Nothing wrong with that.”

The final part of the video showed Mr Watkinson shouting: “How about sorry for trying to mess up my work?

“How about that? Do you know how hard it is to broadcast live to half a million people?

“Do you know how hard it is to concentrate?

“It’s quite hard without someone in the background going ‘ooooh I want to be on TV’.”

ITV Central is the regional news for the Midlands.

It broadcasts a number of news bulletins from Birmingham each day.
