Kate Middleton news: Prince Harry not isolated by Kate Middleton at Prince Philip funeral | Royal | News

Royal commentator says it would be nice for Harry to ‘stick around’

During Saturday’s funeral for the Duke of Edinburgh William and Harry were seen walking together after leaving the service. It comes just six weeks after the Duke and Duchess of Sussexes’ incendiary interview with Oprah Winfrey in which they accused Royal Family members of racism.

Writing for The Sun Tom Bower, who wrote a biography about Prince Charles, argued it’s too early to say whether the funeral marks the start of a more permanent reconciliation.

Referring to Harry he said: “To his good fortune, William and Kate did not isolate him despite the trashing he meted out on his family on US TV just six weeks ago.

“Only the coming days will reveal whether Harry is prepared to show honest remorse.

“Undoubtedly, the sight of the Queen’s suffering during an emotional service for their beloved grandfather will have drawn the brothers and Kate together in the minutes after a draining spectacle.

“Realists will judge that his refusal so far to utter any public apology cannot be disguised by a short walk up the hill.”

The funeral for Prince Philip, who died last week aged 99, took place at Windsor Castle’s St George’s Chapel.

Due to coronavirus restrictions, only 30 mourners were allowed to attend and the service was socially distanced.

Photos of the Queen sitting on her own due to Covid-19 went viral on social media with many Britons expressing their sadness and dismay.

Harry and Meghan made a number of bombshell claims when interviewed by Ms Winfrey for CBS.

The Duchess revealed she’d suffered from loneliness, and experienced suicidal feelings, since joining the Royal Family.

She also alleged there were “concerns and conversations” about Archie’s skin tone prior to his birth within the family.

Harry confirmed the account adding: “That conversation, I am never going to share.

“At the time, it was awkward, I was a bit shocked.”

Both Sussexes declined to say which Royal Family member had made the comments.

However, Ms Winfrey later said Harry and Meghan asked her to make clear it was neither the Queen nor Prince Philip.

Harry also alleged his father and brother are “trapped” within the Royal Family.

Following the interview, William insisted the family is “very much not racist” whilst visiting a London school.

A Buckingham Palace statement released on behalf of the Queen

expressed sadness at Meghan’s suffering, but noted “some recollections may vary” about the events described.

Mr Bower argues tensions between William and Harry go back long before Meghan joined the family.

He wrote: “In truth, there were fractures between Harry and William that started more than 20 years ago.

“Identified as the future monarch, William was sometimes invited alone for Sunday lunch with the Queen in Windsor.

“Walking across the Thames from Eton, the schoolboy was introduced by his grandmother to the secrets and magic of the world’s most enduring monarchy.

“To his growing dismay Harry was denied that privilege.

“Although Diana had spoken of Harry’s luck to be relieved of that burden, he grieved over being side-lined.”
