London news: Nine arrested after police clash with ‘Kill the Bill’ march in capital | UK | News

Thousands of people marched through the streets of central London this afternoon, with many chanting and holding placards with “Kill the Bill” written on them.

Groups demonstrated outside government buildings in protest at a new legislation that would increase police powers and curb protests.

Similar protests took place in other cities across England and Wales, including Bristol, which saw several days of clashes between protesters and police in March.

In a statement, the Met Police said nine people had been arrested and officers were “continuing to engage” with protesters who had gathered in a park in south London after the march.
