Teofimo Lopez calls Floyd Mayweather ‘f****** crazy’ and tells Deontay Wilder to ‘stop complaining and acting like a b****’ after Tyson Fury loss
Teofimo Lopez has labelled Floyd Mayweather ‘f****** crazy’ for suggesting Gervonta Davis is the ‘A side’ between the two lightweights.
‘El Brooklyn’ dethroned Vasyl Lomachenko last month to become the undisputed lightweight world champion and defeat one of the best pound-for-pound boxers of this generation.
Naturally, future opponents have been discussed and the situation surrounding Davis and fellow 135lbs contender Devin Haney remains murky.
Technically, both men have versions of world titles, although ‘Tank’ is the WBA ‘Super’ lightweight champion and Haney won the WBC version after Lomachenko was upgraded to ‘Franchise’ champion.
But Lopez took umbrage with Mayweather’s comments and suggested the 50-0 legend should let his talented protégé speak for himself.
“That’s Floyd you know, that’s Floyd speaking,” Lopez said in an interview given to Umar of iFL TV.
“Floyd is speaking for Tank. I think Tank needs to step up, he’s a grown a** man, he needs to talk. He doesn’t need Mayweather to always talk for him.
“I think Mayweather is still trying to be relevant, I am going to be honest, I am going to be blunt. I am going be blunt as hell right now, I think Floyd is still trying to find ways to stay relevant. So he uses Tank Davis, he talks to the media for him.
“Let Tank do his own talking. Let Tank be a man. Stop babying the man. I think Floyd is crazy for this man to think that Tank will be the A-side. It’s ridiculous.
“That’s the problem though; that’s what’s going to make this a difficult fight to happen. We know, deep down, I’m the undisputed lightweight world champion. I earned the crown, I fought for the crown.
“I beat the best guy that they had in the division, I collected all the belts and you’re saying I’m going to be the B side?
“You’re crazy man, you’re f****** crazy. It’s not going to happen.”
Lopez also gave his opinion on Deontay Wilder’s current situation with Tyson Fury, with the American seemingly stumbling into one PR disaster after another.
After reeling off a plethora of pathetic excuses for losing their rematch in February, Wilder has since demanded a trilogy fight with ‘The Gypsy King’ – something Lopez feels he should let go.
He added: “If anything, I’m just trying to tell the man honestly. Deontay Wilder: stop talking about this, a lot of people think your fight happened a year ago.
“People forget it happened earlier this year. I think he has too much time on his hands and he needs to get back to training, get back to fighting.
“If anything, the fans miss Deontay Wilder. So we need to see that again, go out there and show us what you’re all about. For him to talk and bash his team…
“Him and I are different, in size and in weight and mentally! So I think just stop talking about it, the fight is over with.
“I wish him nothing but the best, I want him to have a successful career from this loss and come back even hungrier.”
Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe was unhappy with Lopez for taking aim at ‘The Bronze Bomber’ with the 23-year-old telling Ellerbe to ‘stop being a b****’ on Twitter.
And Lopez warned Wilder he is heading down the same path.
“I think it was funny though,” he concluded. “Since a lot of people were talking about it and people are going to talk.
“I think that people don’t understand I just have a passion for the sport. When it comes to it; I don’t mean to discredit his manhood.
“Obviously we know Deontay Wilder is NOT a b****, but stop complaining and acting like one.”
